My name is Heidi L. Smith and I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Certified Meeting Professional, and author with 25 years of experience in the meetings/hospitality industry. As a meeting planning professional and having spent many years in a sales role, I used to travel about 80,000+ miles per year on the road for work and it was not always easy due to my auto-immune disorders and food allergies. There were many days that I had trouble finding healthy things to eat while I was traveling and I got really tired of always being hungry or having to eat things that were not good for me because that was the only option available.
At one point, after being sick for weeks and nearly dying from dehydration, I was finally diagnosed with celiac disease more than 15 years ago. It is a long and scary story but I had no idea what was wrong with me until it was almost too late. I was later diagnosed with a severe dairy allergy and eosinophilic esophagitis and as I continued to travel for work and had to attend meetings and events faced with not being able to eat during meal functions or having to eat foods that made me sick,or choose to go hungry, I started doing research on whole foods, healthy nutrition and lifestyles for people like me who have food allergies and dietary restrictions. That research eventually led me to find the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I enrolled in their educational certification program and became a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach through IIN in New York.
I decided to take my passion for learning about managing food allergies and turn it into a wellness practice so that I can help others to find overall health and sustainable wellness. The Integrative Wellness Studio was born from this passion and I now provide resources to others with auto-immune disorders, food allergies and those who are looking to build sustainable health and wellness through lifestyle and nutrition.
My husband, Dennis, and I have a son who is finishing college in Louisiana and we have two dogs, Wally & Agador, who provide a lot of laughs each day. In fact, the dogs are even on my health program eating a raw food diet to help Agador manage his diabetes…it’s a family affair! Other activities I enjoy include cooking, golf, tennis, live music, and travel. I’ve also just published my first book, Milk.Toast. – My journey managing celiac disease and food allergies at home and on the road and it’s available now for purchase on Amazon.com.
